We’re all big fans of the classic monster films, especially the mash-ups. Universal’s were always the best. Frankenstein Meets the Wolfman, House of Frankenstein, House of Dracula… all great but perhaps none better than the comedy mash up, Abbott & Costello Meet Frankenstein, where the latex Frankenstein headpiece you see here on this page originated. The client for this latex prop restoration project requested that we repair, finish & display the headpiece and help his piece of Hollywood makeup history shine!
As both a factor of age and how it was initially cast, there were a few thin spots and holes which needed to be repaired before we could move towards finishing. We reinforced those areas from the inside of the piece, then patched some external damage. Once restored, the prop was then painted and haired in a “vintage” style reminiscent of the style featured in the classic comedy film.
We even mounted the piece on one of our foam mannequin display heads with clear acrylic base and this is a great example of how a clean, simple display head like that can give your collectible a classy, museum look! We love helping people take their prized collection out of boxes or storage and onto their display shelves!
