Escape from the Planet of the Apes Movie Prop Boots
A themed display for a pair of original Escape from the Planet of the Apes movie prop boots worn by Roddy McDowall.
We created a custom Ape City themed display for this original pair of Escape from the Planet of the Apes movie prop boots. This pair of Ape-o-naut boots was worn by Roddy McDowall’s character Cornelius as part of his space suit. Escape from the Planet of the Apes finds several of the apes from the original films arriving back on Earth in the 20th century, or their past. When they arrive some people find the english speaking apes fascinating while others see them as a threat to humanity.
For these classic movie costume pieces, we created a hand carved foam base. Our intention was to create something that looked like the sandstone that is so prevalent in Ape City in the first two Planet of the Apes movies. Once the display was hand carved, the base was coated to add more texture as well as durability. Several hand painted layers were added to give the base a more realistic finish. To complete the display we added a custom full color metal plaque.
