Custom Display Base for Dracula Mask
A custom, faux stone display for a production made latex Dracula mask from Bram Stoker’s Dracula.
This display was made for a production made latex Dracula mask from the 1992 movie Bram Stoker’s Dracula. The mask arrived in excellent condition for its age. The core of the mask was well supported because it had been previously foam filled, though it exhibited a small amount of cracking around the perimeter of the latex bib which had been unsupported over the years.
The latex mask was given a gentle cleaning overall. The bib was reinforced from the underside with fabric patching in any weak areas and very lightly touched up to blend any cracks away.
For this display we took our inspiration from the Gothic stone architecture of Dracula’s castle. Artist Patrick Louie began by carving the base out of EPS foam. Once the sculpting was finished the piece was coated to give it strength as well as the stone texture. The base was then painted in a realistic stone finish complete with layers of aging and distressing. The paint treatment can really change the entire look of the piece. Adding darker colors in the grooves really help pop the details and bring the gothic horror feel. The finishing touch to this movie prop showcase was a custom designed, full color plaque printed on aluminum.
